Giving Students Options

Every child has the right to a quality education, but the traditional public school does not work for every student. Milburn Schools provide individual attention from teachers and a smaller, family-like environment to help ensure student success.

Transferring Credits?

Credits are transferable to any United States high school and are accepted by most colleges and universities.

Student Success

Students share their successful experiences.

Susan

When Susan* came to RMA she was in the 10th grade and struggling to attend school on a daily basis. She hadn't felt safe at her previous school, and thought RMA's small, supportive setting would be better for her. Susan's teachers and counselors worked with her throughout the year, encouraging her to believe in herself and to apply herself to her studies. With support from the staff and students at RMA, Susan began to feel good about herself and about school. Her self-confidence improved, and she set higher goals for herself. She graduated second in her class and plans on becoming a psychiatrist after college.

John

John* came to RMA from Colorado. Because he was a military dependent, he had traveled extensively and his educational background was fragmented. A traditional school did not have the flexibility to design an educational plan for him that would integrate its curriculum with his academic achievements. John came to RMA, hoping that the flexible program could be adapted to meet his needs. RMA staff members reviewed and analyzed John's academic history. They were able to create a curriculum for John that allowed him to continue with his studies appropriately and work toward his goal of earning a diploma. Thanks to hard work and support from his teachers, John graduated from RMA less than a year after he entered the school.

Letters From Students**

"Coming here has given me a second chance at succeeding in life. It helped me get my high school diploma. It showed me responsibility. I also made many new friends and met people who will forever be inspirations in my life. Everyone here has been so helpful. They showed me that nothing is out of my reach. Even when the going got rough they were here for me. When I quit school last year I thought I was done for good. I thought I had no chance in life. Then one day I decided I wanted to go back to school and do what was right. When other schools told me it couldn't be done, Richard Milburn Academy told me it could be done, and they were right."

"I've attended four different high schools, but I am proud of graduating from Richard Milburn Academy. I was not just another face among the masses here. I was an individual they recognized and cared for every day. I had fantastic teachers who cared about bettering my education, and who were there for me in more ways than one. I was also able to get to know my principal not just by title or name, but as a person who cared about me and my future. I've enjoyed the educational opportunity that Richard Milburn Academy gave me. To future incoming students I'd like to say take advantage of all that Richard Milburn has to offer you, and I know you will enjoy it here as much as I did."

"I was ready to give up. Even worse, I thought everyone had given up on me. No one expected to see me graduate, especially me. I had bad grades and I hated school. One day I passed a sign for Richard Milburn Academy. When I walked in, I knew I had found the place I should have been all along. RMA had nice teachers and the environment seemed like it would be good for me. A couple of days ago, I walked across the stage and received my diploma. Me. I graduated. The first one from my family to do it without dropping out. In a very short period of time, I went from a junior on her way to dropping out to an early graduate who knows no limits. I am going to college, I am going to do something with my life, and I have RMA and its staff to thank."
